About our centre

Thinking about the future, it is of utmost importance that children develop their potential to the fullest! They must aim for the sky and at least land among the stars. At Kumon Prosperita, young and old will be welcomed with open arms! Students are evaluated and a personalized plan is chosen, specific to their needs and level of development.

School-aged children are trained in the Kumon method of study which results in them mastering information that is even beyond grade level. This gives them confidence at school, knowing they are further along than their fellow students. The students’ grades go up and they also develop a positive attitude towards school.

Kumon Prosperita aims to teach our students; that in life, you win or learn! They must see each mistake as another opportunity to learn and grow.

Both Mathematics and English are available at this centre. Reading will also be encouraged, to expand vocabulary and personal growth. Kumon is therefore more than just an academic program. The aim is to develop independent self-learners, supported by a team effort i.e., the centre’s team, the student, and their parents.

Kumon Prosperita operates from the Christian Family Centre, next to Windhoek Country Club. There is ample shaded parking.

About your Instructor

My name is Rozanne van der Merwe.  I am a proud mom of 4 children; understanding the hectic daily routine from being their personal “chauffeur” to homework stress and still having my own career.  There just aren’t enough hours in the day!  And with that, the added responsibility of cultivating our children to flourish and develop into the best they can be!
That is what initially intrigued me about the Kumon programme mission.

Firstly, to develop important life skills such as self-confidence, focus on the task at hand, ownership and responsibility, time management, critical reading skills and being a joyful learner.
Secondly, to develop an independent, self-learner who can think for themselves and solve problems on their own.
Kumon is for any age group and ability student and one can never start too soon!   The cornerstone of the program is to discover and develop each child’s potential using the “just right level” of academic work.  In this, we nurture their growth by advancing at a comfortable pace with small progressive steps every day to reach our end product... A self-assured, motivated, self-sufficient, logical problem solver for the next generation.

Through daily study of the unique Kumon worksheets, your child will strive towards studying above the international standard for their age within a year, enabling them to realise their potential both at school and beyond.

Working in the centre for the past 3 years, I was privileged enough to facilitate magic moments in ability development with our students and that has brought me endless joy!  I hope that your child’s magic moments will be shared and treasured in our kumon centre Prosperita!  We look forward to meeting you!

Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in Maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
